Introduction to Facing North

My name is Noah Campbell. I spent the first portion of my adult life fruitlessly pursuing improvisational and experimental music as a career path. This is exactly the sort of wisdom you want from an astrologer I'm sure! The greatest inspiration in my life has been Robin Armstrong, a close family friend who while visiting my family as a child, knowing that a slew of extremely difficult transits were hitting my chart, not the least of which Pluto upon my IC, realized that I needed something to focus my energy upon, and introduced me to the idea that I could drum. A cupboard full of busted pots and pans later, my parents helped me buy my very own drum-set, while being supportive and tolerating the infernal racket brewing in the basement.

Many years later, after my attempts to connect with the world by agitating the air with my own fractally blossoming mind failed, I wound up back in my northern home town, working at the same mill two generations on either side of my family had. How predictable! In fighting through the bits of existential quandary which remained after communing with the abundant nature which surrounds, a series of events and synchronicities led me to start studying astrology. Again, Robin became the most influential person in my life, as he was in the process of recording to video his entire astrology course at the time.  Over the course of five years I secured a scholarship from the RASA program, and continue to explore the cosmos through my own unique Northern lens.

It is my stated position and deeply held belief that all systems of astrology can work, and so my purposes with this blog and my practice are not to argue the invalidity of any given system, but merely to broaden horizons and continue the exploration of the meaning of the sky. Astrology is infinite, and I mean that very literally, because astrology IS literal. We look to the sky to see shown to us in plain sight what the meaning of the moment is. The limits and potentials of what the sky has to say in any given moment encapsulates the entirety of life on Earth, and then continues moving on, with every action started at that moment becoming its own life interacting with the moments to come. The fact that one can read any given situation happening into any one horoscope is more reason to require a range of systems all being worked on by a range of different astrological minds. You could spend your entire life examining one chart, and continue to discover new things about it. This is true, we are all doing this with our own chart every day of our lives.

Many astrologers get hung up in arguments such as whether the tropical or sidereal Zodiac is the one true Zodiac. Why not both? People who need their chart read with a Sidereal bent will gravitate to an astrologer who look through that lens. The constellations are constructed culturally, and have shifted forms and meanings across generations and civilizations. The Planets themselves seem to have a more universal understanding for the most part, which is logical since they orbit so close to us in comparison. The Stars filter through the vast infinity of space to reach us with an extremely nuanced and particular particle of light meant just for our planet. As the tilt of the axis of the Earth slowly spins, the constellations advance through the Tropical Zodiac, which is a function of our seasons. The constellations are filtered through the colour of our seasons before they reach us, as the seasons are a profound influence upon human consciousness, which interacts with stellar light to give meaning to the stars, which I'm sure have their own spirits and internal meaning. We cannot commune with the totality of something as vast and powerful as a star, nor can we commune fully with another human being. Just as a friend will show a specific side of themselves which melds with your own shared interests, the stars shine a specific shade of light which we can connect to on Earth. In this way, human consciousness evolves the stars, as they evolve us.

I'm taking this tangent as part of my introduction to this blog to try and explain what my intentions are here. Saturn is the lord of Time. In order to access the stars, one must first wrestle with the classical boundary of our solar system. One must learn a tradition first, performing the difficult and regimented work of studying the stars through the focused lens of a cohesive system before Saturn, satiated, opens the gates to the stars and allows pure inspiration to flood in. Astrology is not merely a robotic calculation of points on a chart which add up to an inescapable conclusion, it is a communion between the astrologer and the mind of God. Once due diligence is done, inspiration and divine grace are required to read a chart properly, and give to the moment, or person, exactly that which they need to hear.

This blog is intended to become a repository for my particular inspirations about the divine art of Astrology. I seek to not tread the ground well trodden, the internet is full of excellent resources for getting a grounding in the techniques one needs to practice. For the most part I write towards a reasonably knowledgeable readership, though I will slow down and reiterate basics at some points, because I have found much interest from those who have not taken the full plunge into astrological literacy yet. I've been publishing articles for some time in my group on Facebook, which is a fun and welcoming space you may want to join.

I have been creating videos focused mainly on using pop culture in unique ways to explain the basics of astrology, as well as proffering some theories about conscious use of astrology within the mainstream media. I have a channel on Youtube, Odyssee, and Rumble, with duplicated content, pick your fave.

I also, as of today, am opening up a shop on Redbubble to sell my T-shirt designs. I'm just learning on that end, so bear with me. None of the shirts are branded Facing North, yet... I'd prefer to keep the planetary messages pure, but some shirts may come with a Facing North logo eventually. I'd like to have a Saturn shirt for every colour of the Zodiac as a form of connecting with your own Saturn, but so far it looks like they don't have all the colours needed at the site, we'll see.... and if you don't like my shabby designs, then....
