Which House do you Sleep In?

The astrological houses are the physical placement of the signs and planets around the sky as we view them from Earth. They are entirely a function of the Earth's rotation from a geocentric perspective. What is rising literally is the rising sign, what is highest on the ecliptic is the midheaven, and so on. It is said that all things in life have a space within the significations of one of the 12 houses. In essence, they are a description of where the Sun is every two hours of the day, (less warped and confusing if you think about it on one of the equinoxes where the Sun is above and below the horizon for an even amount of time), and gain much of their meaning from what activities humans tend to do at these times, and how the Sun's hourly position affects our mood and thought process. I explore how the houses get their signification by time of day in more detail in this video, using the films of Paul Thomas Anderson as a framework for exploration.

The houses are our worldly concerns.

As such, I've found it extremely peculiar that no sources seem to talk about where to place sleep within the houses. Peculiar indeed. I'm sure this has been addressed before, but oddly I have never come across it. Dreams are given to the ninth house as an element of visions and that which is alien, but dreams are not synonymous with sleep. In fact I believe dreams wind up in the ninth (which denotes the hours that the Sun is between Noon and 2 PM) as a function of the post-lunch nap, where the mind can more readily access that liminal state between sleep and wake so rife with dreams, which is a very different thing from the black chasm of a deep sleep. As someone with a very difficult relationship to sleep, this lack of distinct house placement has been extremely noticeable to me. With a very small amount of deduction, it becomes clear that the FOURTH house is the house of sleep. The fourth house is the house of home and family. For any given individual, their home within the home is their bedroom. A planet in the fourth is approaching the midnight point of the IC. It is the darkest part of the day. The Sun is below the horizon, and setting deeper still. This is the darkest and most private place within the houses. It also schematically represents the hours of 10 PM to Midnight, which for most normal adults is the time when they head to bed.

The Home within the bedroom is the bed. The fourth house is also descriptive of one's bed and preferences relating to that. I mentioned I have some life long sleeping issues. Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome is the most accurate descriptor I've found, my circadian cycle seems to be longer than 24 hours. Discovering this, and finding out that Melatonin supplements can help regulate this was a life saver for me.  Though not perfect, overall my sleep schedule is much more regular, despite being a shift worker. Well, I have Uranus in my fourth house. A shocking shift to the habits there. Even with melatonin, my inclination is also to be a night hawk, a fine disposition for an astrologer! Where's my Ziggaraut!

My IC is in Scorpio, my bed is a place where often deep brooding and judgmental thoughts keep me from sleep and awaken me daily. My room is also WELL barricaded from the light, all light, which I see as a brooding and dark Scorpionic setting. As well, thoughout my life, sleep has been best when the bed is shared with a loved one.

How does your fourth house describe your own sleeping habits? Your bedroom? Your bed?
