The Birth of A King: a Deep Dive into the astrology of the Occult Elvis
What a Hunk a Lunk of Burning Love. Oh yea, what a Hound Dog. Not only that; he was a man of both suspicious, and mystical mind. I was invited onto Miguel Conner's new show, Generation X Wasteland, to discuss the astrological implications of Elvis. Miguel is about to release a new book about the Occult Elvis on an astrologically curious moment in the post-mortem phase of the King's immortally unfolding natal chart. If you don't believe me, give the full episode a listen. It's a deep dive into the mythological star lore that describes Elvis' core wounding, and some of the most important chapters in his life. It's a narrative journey that has a fascinating resolution in Miguel's riveting new look at what Elvis held most dear to his soul.
There was so much to get to, unsurprisingly I skimmed over some of my notes which have some fascinating resonances worth considering. I'll share the important parts of Elvis' chart below with minimal commentary. Both the stars highlighted, as well as the I Ching correlations for each degree as per Robin Armstrong's system. As for Robin, check out the incredible colour madala chart he made up for Elvis, see your own chart in a whole new way at Robin's store.
The King's Ching
The Sun - The Sun represents one's creative heart. The spirit animating life on this plane of existence.
Hexagram 3 - Difficulty at the Beginning – L6
Elvis's Sun is upon Sheliak, the Beta star of Lyra, which is the tortoise shell Hermes crafted the magical lyre out of for Orpheus.
The Moon – One's inner emotional processes. How the artist manifests their vision in reality. The Mother. Habits, moods... etc...
Hexagram 37 – Family, the Clan – L4
His Moon is upon Fomalhaut, perhaps the most mystical star in the sky, the fish's mouth into which Aquarius pours the water of purity into. A profound significator of artistic talent as well as a sense of the divine. Fomalhaut has been linked to the Arch-angel Gabriel.
Mercury – Cartesian logic, our ability to communicate and think in elementary terms.
Hexagram 42 - Increase L5
Upon Deneb Okab, a misnamed star within the wing of Aquila. It is said to give the ability to command and success in the martial arts. Mercury rules his seventh house of relationships. Aquila is Jupiter as the eagle carrying off the youth to be his beloved cup bearer in the sky. Enough said.
Venus - Love and attraction. Our aesthetics. What attracts and what repulses us. Emotional bonding.
Hexagram 51 – The Arousing Thunder – L6
Elvis' Venus is in contact three relevant stars, Tarazed Gamma Aquila, Sham - Alpha Sagitta, amd Albiero - beta Cygnus. Note that Cygnus has been said to be the form Zeus took as a swan to 'seduce' Leda, which gave birth to the twins Castor and Pollux, which becomes a crucial part of this story.
Mars – Our muscles, our courage, our anger. What pushes one to go out into the world, and the conflict we encounter there.
Hexagram 56 – The Wanderer – L1
Elvis' Mars is upon Algorab, Alpha Corvus, which is given to the nature of Mars, implying it's significations will become more prevalent in his chart. Corvus has been said to be Apollo in raven form fleeing from Typhon.
Jupiter – Our sense of expansion into society. Our morals, our philosophy, our religion. Our wisdom learned through the course of our lives.
Hexagram 45 – Gathering Together – L6
Zuben Eschamali, Beta Libra. The northern scale, or the price that covers. Generally seen as the more positive outcome between the two scales.
Saturn
- Our ability to structure our lives into a worthwhile contribution
to society. Restriction. Constraint. Sometimes the influence of
the father.
Hexagram 63 – After Completion,
Appropriateness – L5
Close to Sador, Gamma Cygnus, again.
Uranus – The shocking and eccentric energy which creates sudden change.
Hexagram 54 – The Marrying Maiden - L4
Is upon Vertex, the Andromeda galaxy. Elvis' ability to shock the culture had our closest neighbour's entirey energy behind the force of that hip thrust!
Neptune – The mystical, the confusing, the dream. Foggy and deceptive, but incredibly inspirational. Also can relate to substance abuse.
Hexagram 29 – The Abysmal Water - L4
Pluto – The great dark Chthonic lord. The unconscious. Power struggles. Fears. Anxieties. Death.
Hexagram 57- The Gentle Penetrating Wind - L2
Upon Procyon, the alpha star of Canis Minor. He ain't nuttin' but a Hound Dog. "Especially dangerous is Procyon, especially when configured with Mars and Pluto." Elsbeth Ebertin.
The
Ascendant -
The rising sign is where we put our energy out into the world. It
colours how our character is perceived by others, as well as how we
perceive ourselves.
Hexagram 8 – Holding Together -
L6
Upon Alqaid, the eye of the dragon. It has been called "He who is to be destroyed".
The IC
– The deepest, most hidden part of the natal chart. Our roots.
Our ancestors. Our private life, our home and family. What we keep
internally and secret.
Hexagram 13 - Fellowship with Men –
L4
Azalfafage, Pi Cygnus.
The Descendant – Where we take energy in. Who we attract, and how we view others. The spouse.
Hexagram 14 – Possession in Great Measure – L6
The MC – Status and career. The most visible point of a chart, our public face.
Hexagram 7 – The Army, Duty - L4
Zavi Javi, Beta Virgo is upon Elvis' midheaven. It is said to give beneficence, force of character, strength, combative movements and destructiveness. I'm assuming they meant self-destructiveness.
In looking at the chart of Elvis' still-born twin, I found a few interesting I ching references in the ascendant and Moon which both had changed degrees in the 35 minutes before Elvis was born which highlighted the King vs. Fool theme which Miguel was writing about.
The degree of Jessie's ascendant - Enthusiasm, L1 - (from Robin's text): One pauses and lets others go first. There is opposition. To force one's way will increase difficulties. You can't always get what you want. On hearing thunder one is inclined to let go of priorities. Weak character will not inspire others. A fool and his money are soon parted.
The degree of Jessie's Moon, from the Willhelm translation - The Family, The Clan, L5 - As a King approaches his family, fear not. Good fortune.
