Genesis Chapter 1 as a Powerful Allegory of Astrological Literacy

The entire first chapter of Genesis (and hence the Judaeo-Christian Bible), is, top to bottom, astro-coded.  The creation of the Earth is an allegory explaining why the days of the week carry with them the planetary resonances they do.  I have a certain desire to re-read the entire Bible and write about all the astrological references and meanings of the work in a complete book form.  Maybe someday if I can make astrology my day job I will get around to this, until then, we don't need any more preamble here, let us marvel at the creation of the Holy Universe!

"In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."

No one can deny that on the first day, which is SUNday, God creates the Sun and there is light in the world.  The Sun is the center of our solar system and the source of all life on earth.  There is nothing complicated or debatable about this.  These are the first lines in the whole bible, and already God has begun creation with the center and king of all things in this physical realm, the Sun.  Of course the Sun's movements around the Zodiac through the seasons give us the signs' meanings, as well as the Sun's movement through the sky every day give us the meanings of the houses.  The Sun is central to all things astrology, the Bible begins there on a very powerful note.

"And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day."

On the Second day, which is MOONday, God divides the water.  As we know, scientifically, the Moon controls the tides on Earth.  The Moon is a decidedly watery planet, and rules our inner emotions.  More interestingly, we have this distinction of dividing the waters BELOW the firmament and ABOVE the firmament.  The Moon is the closest body to the Earth, and is our intermediary between the stars and life on Earth.  As the water sustains all life on Earth, the Moon represents our ability to sustain and nurture ourselves and others within out astrological charts.  The Moon also allows us to access the stars in the firmament as it translates their power across the divide between us and the heavens.  The Moon is our Mother in the sky.

"9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day."

Now we reach Tuesday (which is Mars Day).  Interestingly enough, as fiery and hot as Mars is as a planet, it exalts in the very cold and dry territory of Capricorn, an Earth sign.  Investigating the significations of the second decan of Capricorn, which is Mars and Venus ruled, will yield some very interesting connotations here with this set of verses, with the powers of people gathering together their resources and energy into a larger work.  Of the natures, Mars is hot, and Earth is cold, but they agree upon both being dry, and we see an abundance of the use of the word dry here.  What we next read is the use of the word seed incessantly.  Mars is the phallus, the masculine sexual principle, and that which issues the seed.   It's interesting that in this section, on Mars day, the emphasis is upon the masculine element of the plant, the seed issuing portion.  Grass being noted here especially is a very Martial plant with it's serrated edges and ability to spread far and wide.

"14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day."

Ah, Mercredi, Mercury day!  Did you realize that Mercury was the traditional ruler of astrology?  Here we see the creation of astrology.  Very explicitly.  I've been quoting Genesis 1:14 for years to anyone who thinks the Bible is anti-astrology.  This is the most explicit it gets until the birth of Jesus being attended by astrologers following portends in the sky.  "Let them be for signs and seasons....",  indeed.  Mercury loves to divide things, and measure one thing against another.  God now officially separates the luminaries from the great, central, and all-encompassing light at the center of the universe.  This may also be a hint to the idea that Eve was created from a rib of Adam, the Moon separating and taking a portion of the Sun's light with it.  In many mythologies, the Sun and Moon are twins, and so we have another manifestation of the Gemini signification of Mercury.  It is now the duty of Mercury (our intellectual minds), to note the differences in night and day, and how the stars and planets move to discern the signs of the heavens.  Hump day indeed.  We may need a breather after this tall order!

"20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day."

Now we have Thursday, Jupiter's day.  And the word abundant gets spammed.  Jupiter is all about abundance.  Especially the abundance of the loins.  There is no more Jupiterian phrase than, "Be fruitful and multiply."  If you don't believe me, read some Greek mythology! Jupiter certainly multiplied his own seed!  Even the giving of blessing is an explicitly Jupiterian action.  The whale as well, by its sheer size alone, is an extremely Jovian symbol, being the largest planet in the solar system.

"24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good."

On Friday, Vendredi, Venus' day, God invents sex.  Ok, they obfuscated a tiny bit, but as we get to the feminine sexual principle of Venus, procreation begins, and all life on Earth is given the ability to procreate after its own kind.  We also have God looking upon creation and deciding that it is good.  Aesthetics, art, music and beauty are all significations of Venus.  So is self-worth.  God is proud of himself and what he has done.

We now continue on with Venus day, apparently God had a lot of work to cram in before the weekend!

"
26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day."

Apparently God was so pleased with himself he figured we needed more ego-maniacs running around dominating the Earth! Jupiter bless this level of self-esteem!  Venus rules pleasure and desire, and so God gives over all the animals and plants to be used by the humans in any way they desire.  This weekend is going to be LIT!  He even made Herb for us! Awesome.  He also gives a shout out to FOWL on Venus day... YHWH's a fan.  We also see the differentiation of the sexes made explicit here, an element of physical reality which Venus is uniquely concerned with.  Venus seeks above all else to entice Mars to act and continue on the procreation and proliferation of life to the joy of Jupiter.

We now have to jump to the next chapter to finish out our holy week of creation,
"
Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."

The seventh day is of course Saturn Day.  Saturn, being the furthest visible planet denoted the edges of physical reality before the firmament of stars began.  The firm boundaries of life on Earth.  Everything beyond that is unreachable to finite human existence within this framework.  Saturn bears the scythe which is the symbol of the harvest of work done.  If due diligence has been taken, and concerted, unwavering energy applied to a task, then one must rest and end their labor upon Saturn's Day.  He comes in the winter to kill the crops not properly cared for.  He puts his energy into the root.  Saturn Day is a day of rest.  It is worth noting that the God of the old testament is a decidedly Saturnine figure of rigid laws and judgments; he is a jealous God.  The Sabbath is honoured on Saturn's Day.  With the new covenant of the New Testament, we return to Sun Day, where most modern Christians celebrate their day of rest, as Jesus' major holidays and developments revolve around benchmarks of Solar progress around the year.  Born in the moment of greatest darkness just after the winter solstice, the Sun returns after Saturn's Day.

What strikes me as most impressive about the first chapter of the entire Bible, is that the order of the planets being honoured here is not Chaldean order, which is the logical adherence to the slowest moving planet moving inward to the fastest, or even the converse of that.  The seemingly illogical jumping around of the order of planets in our seven day weekly structure (which ties the 28((ish)) day Lunar cycle into a neat and nifty four quarter cycle), only exists because of the Planetary Hour scheme.  It does create a perfect fifth from one day to the next which is relevant to musical theory, but this is not the complete story.  When you divide the day into twelve even sections, and the night into twelve even sections via Chaldean order, they wrap around every day to make the Planetary Days of the week as we know them.  The Planetary Hours and Days are an expressly magical system of timing, which makes one ponder the meaning of many things in the Bible.  All glory goes to God on this Earth... maybe I'll just leave it at that!
